All I Ever Needed to Know …

All I ever needed to know, I learned in Kindergarten, from my mum, from God…and from Dr. Seuss.(Dr. Seuss quotes are in blue)
If  leaders of countries  and the  heads of corporations practiced what they learned as small children, the world would be happier, healthier and more peaceful. Perhaps people in power should listen as Dr. Seuss and I talk to my children.
You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.
Share and others will share with you.

More toys won’t make you happier.

Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.
Always say please and thank-you.
When you are grateful and thankful for  even the smallest things, you will be happy.
Don’t take offense quickly or every insult  and slight personally; sometimes other people simply are having a bad day and take it out on you.
Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple.
You can.create something beautiful today out of nothing when you are creative.
Pick up after yourself., don’t leave a mess.
Always do your best.
Don’t give up but finish what you started.
Think left and think right and think low and think high.Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!
Always take the smaller portion when you are offered a treat.
Admit when you are wrong.
You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.

Ask questions if you don’t understand.

Don’t brag.
Don’t take yourself too seriously.
Today you are you! That is truer than true!
There is no one alive who is you-er than you!
If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.
Say your prayers every night to reconnect to life, light and joy.
Remember that friends might come and go but family will always be there for each other.
Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened
Try something new a few times before you decide you don’t like it.
Don’t pick fights or act like a bully just because you are bigger.Maybe Christmas … doesn’t come from a store.
Learn something new today.

Be true to yourself. Don’t try to be someone you are not.
A person’s a person, no matter how small
Always give others the benefit of the doubt.
Wash your hands before you eat and brush your teeth afterwards.
Being crazy isn’t enough.
Mean what you say and say what you mean
You catch more flies with honey than vinegar.
So be sure when you step, Step with care and great tact. And remember that life’s A Great Balancing Act.

Go play and have fun.
Forgive other people because you make mistakes too.
From there to here, and here to there, funny things are everywhere.
When we try to control people we steal their identity so quit being so bossy.
Cover your mouth when you cough, and don’t spread germs.
Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it’s a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope.
Tell the truth.
One lie will lead to another
Put yourself in the other person’s shoes
Why fit in when you were born to stand out?
Have a bath every night
Laugh lots.
“I’m afraid that sometimes you’ll play lonely games too. Games you can’t win ’cause you’ll play against you.”
Get enough rest so you won’t be cranky.
Don’t be afraid to try something new.
I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living.
Eat healthy snacks.
Live in the present moment
The more that you read, the more things you will know.
The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.
Take off your dung-coloured glasses and look at the world clearly.
Look for people’s good qualities and not pointing out their faults.

If the Grinch Can Change…

Dr. Seuss has a wonderful gift of delivering profound words of wisdom in humourous children’s stories and How The Grinch Stole Christmas is no exception. A mean-spirited Grinch, irritated by the joyful residents of Whoville decides to ruin Christmas by stealing every present, decoration and holiday delicacy only to discover that they still wake up singing with joy on Christmas morning for Christmas is not bought at a store. Somehow the Grinch sees, hears and understands and the has the courage to allow truth to literally transform him. His heart expands with love and generosity.

Then the Whos down in Whoville will all cry BooHoo!” “That’s a noise,” grinned the Grinch, “That I simply MUST hear!”
So he paused. And the Grinch put his hand to his ear. And he did hear a sound rising over the snow. It started in low. Then it started to grow. But the sound wasn’t sad! Why, this sound sounded merry! It couldn’t be so! But it WAS merry! VERY! He stared down at Whoville! The Grinch popped his eyes! Then he shook! What he saw was a shocking surprise! Every Who down in Whoville, the tall and the small, Was singing! Without any presents at all!

And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so?
It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled ’till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.”  Dr. Seuss
And what happened then? Well, in Whoville they say that the Grinch’s small heart grew three sizes that day. And then the true meaning of Christmas came through, and the Grinch found the strength of ten Grinches plus two.
Welcome, Christmas, bring your cheer. Cheer to all Whos far and near. Christmas Day is in our grasp so long as we have hands to clasp. Christmas Day will always be just as long as we have we. Welcome Christmas while we stand, heart to heart and hand in hand.

Big M, Little m/ All about M

 Memories of mum moments / M, M, M.

“Big B, Little b
What begins with B?
Barber, baby, bubbles and a bumble bee
B,B,B”
The rhythm and rhyme are specifically designed to catch the smallest child’s attention, with the power to linger in parent’s and children’s brains for decades. These books form and influence our children far beyond their childhood years because the themes help form the foundation of their world view. The following quotations From Dr. Seuss hardly need an introduction. Any one who is or has been a parent will recognize most of them. This selection focuses on phrases that urge people to look at life with joyful expectation.
“Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”
“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go…”
“Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.”
Dr. Seuss’s beliefs have not only influenced generations of children by also parents such as myself. People, do you realize that I have read Dr.Seuss for a solid 22 years and now have begun again after a mere ten-year break!!! Such constant exposure to idiotic, brilliant  irritating poetry means that I can recite many of his books to this day. A very alarming mental condition!
Seuss understood that education should be subtle because little people learn best when they are relaxed, happy and amused. As Seuss so eloquently explains,
“I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living.”
Seuss embraced the life of the imagination and detested the type of staid adults who dismissed the whimsical as a waste of time.
“Adults are just obsolete children and the hell with them.”
In the early years, I tried too hard to teach my kids. Religious parents can be especially earnest as they bring their kids up in the faith. Often we turned to heavy-handed, pedantic prose that is preachy. I call this PPP literature. It turned my kids off.  So I looked around and I discovered the Christian message of hope, joy, love. truth in the most unexpected places. St Therese said it best,
                     “Everything is Grace”
When we open our eyes, moments of grace  are everywhere, even in the big, bad secular society. Catholic teaching is not only found in Catholic literature  but in the most unexpected places. Horton Hears a Who!, by Dr. Seuss is a moment of pure grace, inspired by the Holy Spirit and infused with JOY.
“A person’s a person, no matter how small.”
Horton is definitely a pro-life elephant.

“You're Never Too Old, Too Wacky, Too Wild, To Pick Up A Book And Read To A Child.”

“I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living.”

Seuss embraced the life of the imagination and detested staid adults who dismissed the whimsical,
“Adults are just obsolete children and the hell with them.” ― Dr. Seuss

These quotations From Dr. Seuss hardly need an introduction. Any one who is or has been a parent will reconize most of them. This selection focuses on phrases that urge people to look at life with joyful expectation. I won't even bother expounding  on these quotes because Dr. Seuss says everything much better than I can. Anyway, Seuss hated wordy writing,
"So the writer who breeds more words than he needs, is making a chore for the reader who reads.” ― Dr. Seuss

"Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.”

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go...”

“Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.”

So... get on your way!”

“Today was good. Today was fun. Tomorrow is another one.”

And will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed! (98 and ¾ percent guaranteed) Kid, you'll move mountains.”
